PASCO, Wash. — Organizers of a candlelight vigil on Wednesday night said our community needed an opportunity to come together after the mayhem in Las Vegas.

The theme Hold on, Hold Each Other, and Hold to Love was repeated throughout the evening at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church in Pasco.

Organizers said Universal Unitarian congregations all over the country are holding similar vigils this week.

Rev. Doak Mansfield led the congregation in readings, prayer, and song.

Attendees also observed a moment of silence and lit candles.

Rev. Mansfield says there will be a time for answers and organizing, but first we need to mourn for everything our country has experienced these last few weeks, and especially on Sunday night,

“We need to breath and hold on to one another, and remember that the solutions aren’t always at hand. Anger is okay, but it doesn’t need to be expressed.”

The Reverend told Action News he witnessed the power of forgiveness during his time as an Army chaplain, and because all denomination and creeds acknowledge the power of love it’s what he thinks Americans need to strive for.
