Congregants of the Mt. Diablo Universalist Unitarian Church received word that members of Westboro Baptist Church planned to picket in front of their church Sunday morning.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed Westboro as a hate group that targets the L.G.B.T.Q community.

Four members of the Westboro Baptist Church showed up with signs around eight Sunday morning.

“We are responding with non-engagement,” said Leslie Takahashi, lead minister Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist church. “All people have dignity.”

It wasn't clear why Westboro Baptist Church members traveled from Kansas to picket in front of this particular church in Walnut Creek.

Walnut Creek police and Contra Costa county sheriff’s deputies were on hand, but there were no problems reported.
