All--Thanks for visiting.  We are using this site to help keep friends and family up to date on my journey through coronary-bypass surgery.  As of today, October 18th, all we know is that this surgery is needed urgently.  I had an angiogram last week where extensive heart blockage was found.   


Best guess is that surgery will happen in roughly the next two weeks at the University of Washington Montlake campus.  Following that I will need something like two months of recovery and rehab--which will take me through then end of the year.  We know that recovery is a complicated physical and emotional process that cannot be rushed.  It is very distressing that I need this.  


And, given that I do need to go through this, we feel fortunate regarding our situation.  We are close to our daughter, Liz, and her family.  This is great support for us both.  Rehab will take place at the University of Washington Hospital Northwest, which is a 10 minute drive and a 20 minute walk from our house (great exercise walking to appointments when I am ready for that!).   I will not be able to drive for six weeks but given that we are both retired and many of our activities are still online, this feels manageable.  We had already decided that due to the Delta variant we would not resume major travel until the Spring.  


As a symbolic act, the evening I got the news of the need for the surgery I purchased a ticket to the Chelsea Flower Show in England next May 25th.  There is a long way to go before I can be sure that I will be able to  go.  Yet, heading in that direction--towards resuming of travel is certainly the direction I want to go.  Thanks for all your care and support.
